Drainage Works Along Araneta Avenue to Finish Next Month, Says DPWH

Quezon city: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on Thursday that the expansion project of a drainage system along G. Araneta Avenue in Quezon City is projected to be completed by next month. Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized the significance of finishing the expansion works in an area frequently affected by flooding, with a target completion date set for February.

According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Dizon, who conducted an inspection of the project on Thursday, highlighted the progress of the drainage repair efforts. "So, the first biggest thing we are doing, this repair of the drainage here in Araneta Avenue.in this portion before reaching E. Rodriguez, we are almost done here," Dizon stated. He noted that the drainage interventions began late last year and are being accelerated to mitigate flooding before the onset of the rainy season in June.

The area is known for becoming impassable to vehicles during heavy rains due to flooding. The DPWH is leveraging the current dry period to expedite the completion of the drainage system.

In related developments, the DPWH reported advancements in the EDSA rehabilitation project, with over 31 percent of the work completed. The project includes asphalt overlay on the northbound section from Roxas Boulevard to Taft Avenue, Tramo to Magallanes, and various segments along the southbound section. Concrete reblocking is also scheduled for the P. Celle U-turn. Motorists are advised to consider alternative routes while rehabilitation efforts are underway.
