Alcala: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is looking to finish the construction of the Piggatan Detour Bridge in Alcala, Cagayan next month.
According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Vince Dizon reported in a social media post on Thursday that the construction of the structure is now 84 percent complete. ‘The progress of the ongoing construction of the Piggatan Detour Bridge in Alcala, Cagayan has reached 84 percent after the collapse of the original Piggatan Bridge on Oct. 6, 2025,’ he stated.
Dizon noted that the fast-tracking of the project is in line with the order of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for the immediate construction of an alternative bridge, with a total budget of PHP17 million. This initiative aims to avoid delays in the movement of services and products in the area.
The new structure is a 124-meter bridge with a capacity of 40 tons, more than double the capacity of the collapsed bridge, which was only 18 tons. The original bridge collapsed when several heavy vehicles passed through it simultaneously, leading to several injuries.
