Bulacan: The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (HPG), working on a concerned citizen’s tip, has confiscated seven allegedly unregistered luxury cars in Bulacan, a police official said on Thursday.
According to Philippines News Agency, in a press briefing at Camp Crame, PNP-HPG spokesperson Lt. Nadame Malang explained that the luxury cars were found supposedly idling at a gas station along the Northern Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Marilao town last Monday night. A concerned citizen had reported the unusual sighting to the police, noting that the vehicles had been at the station for almost two hours, a considerable amount of time for refueling.
Lt. Malang mentioned that the police are still trying to ascertain the reason for the extended presence of the cars at the NLEX gas station. The apprehended car owners, identified only as ‘businessmen,’ have had their luxury vehicles turned over to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) central office in Quezon City for further investigation.
Lt. Malang added, “Their profile is that of businessmen and private individuals, so the HPG is looking into whether it went through the proper process.” The tip-off from the public was validated by operatives who discovered that the cars were using improvised plates, leading to the initial violation charge. Further investigation revealed that the vehicles were unregistered.
The drivers now face charges for violating Republic Act 4136, the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, due to driving unregistered vehicles. Additionally, the HPG is probing potential connections between these seized cars and those owned by private contractor couple Pacifico “Curlee” and Cezarah Rowena “Sarah” Discaya, although no direct link has been established.
Lt. Malang noted, “We know that the Discayas have so many cars that they are no longer located in their residence.” He mentioned that authorities have validated the existence of 12 such cars, and ongoing efforts with the Bureau of Customs and other government agencies aim to locate the remaining vehicles. This investigation may help determine if the confiscated luxury cars are part of the Discayas’ collection.
