MANILA: The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) announced plans to increase the delivery of housing units to beneficiaries of the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program as the new year commences. The agency emphasized a commitment to a continuous turnover of units, aiming to alleviate housing challenges for many Filipinos.

According to Philippines News Agency, DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar expressed confidence in the upcoming weeks, anticipating a steady handover of 4PH units to eligible beneficiaries. This initiative follows a significant event in December 2024, where 4PH units in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija, were distributed to overseas Filipino workers at the Malaca±an Palace during the Pamaskong Handog para sa OFWs.

The department is currently processing over 1,000 applications for 4PH units, facilitated by the Pag-IBIG Home Development Mutual Fund. The projects under this program span multiple locations, including Palayan City, Bacolod City, and Bocaue town in Bulacan. Additionally, the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) is nearing the completion of two projects: Crystal Peak Estates in San Fernando, Pampanga, and People’s Ville in Davao City.

Currently, 56 projects are in various stages of construction across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The DHSUD is also maintaining its regular housing programs through its key shelter agencies. Secretary Acuzar highlighted that the realization of these projects took two years, attributed to a transition towards vertical housing developments and delays in documentation by private partners.

The 4PH program aims to provide ordinary Filipinos access to housing experiences traditionally reserved for wealthier citizens. The DHSUD’s strategy includes prioritizing condominium-style buildings to optimize the use of government land for housing purposes.
