DFA Releases Strategic Roadmap to Bolster Philippine Soft Power Abroad

MANILA: The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has unveiled a comprehensive roadmap aimed at enhancing the Philippines’ image and influence on the global stage. The Philippine Soft Power Roadmap, introduced on December 11, marks the culmination of a 14-month initiative led by the DFA Office of Public Diplomacy.

According to Philippines News Agency, the roadmap is a result of extensive research and consultation workshops involving government and non-government stakeholders. It is designed to guide the country’s 98 foreign service posts worldwide in their efforts to project Philippine soft power. Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo emphasized the potential of the Filipino diaspora to cultivate a global presence for the Philippines, citing the international recognition of Filipino cuisine and the widespread celebration of Philippine festivals as examples.

Manalo highlighted the necessity for a coordinated effort to harness the country’s soft power assets. The roadmap seeks to align the DFA’s initiatives
with the current administration’s vision of a Bagong Pilipinas, promoting the Philippines’ diverse perspectives and aspirations internationally.

The DFA anticipates that the roadmap will serve as a reference for other government agencies and sectors across the Philippines. It is designed to support the three pillars of Philippine foreign policy: national security, economic security, and the welfare of Overseas Filipinos.

The launch also featured the publication of two books, “The Frontiers of Foreign Policy: Essays on Philippine Soft Power” and “Colors of Diplomacy: Register of Artworks of the Department of Foreign Affairs,” underscoring the cultural dimension of the DFA’s strategic efforts.
