De Luna Posts Historic Quadruple-Double as DLSZ Overwhelms Ateneo

San Juan: Erica De Luna delivered a historic quadruple-double to lead De La Salle Zobel to a 114-24 dumping of Ateneo de Manila University in the UAAP Season 87 girls’ basketball tournament on Saturday at Filoil EcoOil Centre.

According to Philippines News Agency, the 18-year-old guard registered 32 points, 16 rebounds, 12 steals, and 11 assists, becoming the first player across all five UAAP divisions to achieve this feat. The last recorded quadruple-double was in 2009 when Joshua Saret delivered a similar performance in the NCAA Season 86 boys’ basketball.

De Luna expressed that the achievement boosts her confidence as she prepares for her collegiate career. She added that she is proud of the team’s performance, especially ending the season on a high note.

Assistant coach Maan Moreno commended De Luna’s growth and consistency throughout the season, highlighting her maturity beyond just statistics.

In addition to De Luna’s remarkable performance, Princess Cordero contributed 25 points, eight assists, five steals, and two rebounds. Naima Navarro added 13 points and 13 rebounds for DLSZ, which finished the season with a 2-4 record. Other contributions came from Alexandra Dominguez and Sofia Martinez, who added a combined 19 points.

On the opposing side, Jian Exconde and Cesca Pangilinan scored six points each while Matia Molina added four points, three assists, and two rebounds for Ateneo, which ended its campaign with a 0-6 record.

The title will be contested by National University-Nazareth School and the University of Santo Tomas, with UST and Adamson being co-champions in Season 82 due to the finals’ cancellation amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
