DA-11 Rolls Out P42-M Mobile Soil Lab for Davao Farmers

Davao city: The Department of Agriculture in Davao Region has launched a PHP42-million Mobile Soils Laboratory, aiming to equip farmers with advanced soil diagnostics. The newly introduced lab, housed within a 10-wheeler truck, promises to revolutionize the way soil analysis is conducted in the region.

According to Philippines News Agency, the project is funded by the Bureau of Soils and Water Management and maintained by DA-11. This mobile lab is outfitted with state-of-the-art testing equipment, allowing it to perform comprehensive chemical, physical, and microbiological soil analyses. In addition, it can also conduct water quality assessments, providing a holistic approach to soil and water management for the local agricultural community.

In an interview, Zabdiel Zacarias, the DA-11 regional technical director for Research and Regulations, emphasized the significance of this innovation. “This is more than a technological innovation-it’s a legacy for future generations,” he stated, underscoring the long-term impact of the mobile lab on agriculture in the region.

The mobile soil lab’s primary goal is to make scientific diagnostics more accessible to farmers. “It brings science to the field,” Zacarias added, pointing to the lab’s capacity to deliver on-the-spot analysis and results, which can help farmers make informed decisions about their soil management practices.

DA-11 has called on farmers, extension officers, and local government units to work closely with the Regional Soils Laboratory. They are encouraged to coordinate for sample collection, diagnostics, and training to maximize the potential benefits of this cutting-edge facility.
