Pasig: Creamline’s Bernadeth Pons was named Press Corps Player of the Week Pilipinas Live for her outstanding performances in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference from Jan. 28 to Feb. 1. Pons’ offensive efficiency and solid floor defense helped the defending champions Cool Smashers stay perfect at 7-0.
According to Philippines News Agency, on Saturday, Pons delivered 27 points off 24 kills, two aces, and a block to go with 14 excellent digs as Creamline escaped with a 25-19, 26-24, 23-25, 23-25, 15-9 victory over Cignal at Philsports Arena in Pasig. Pons commented on the team’s resilience in the decisive set, stating that they approached it with renewed energy despite setbacks in the third and fourth sets.
Even with limited action, Pons remained efficient, scoring 13 points and 12 digs in Creamline’s 25-12, 25-21, 25-19 victory over Nxled on Jan. 28. Her consistent performance throughout the week earned her the Player of the Week accolade, surpassing competitors like Kyle Negrito (Creamline), Savi Davison (PLDT), Jov Gonzaga (ZUS Coffee), Ivy Lacsina (Akari), and Trisha Tubu (Farm Fresh).
Pons emphasized the importance of consistency in her game, aiming to improve incrementally every day in training. With key players Alyssa Valdez, Tots Carlos, and Jema Galanza absent during the 2024 Reinforced Conference, Pons stepped up as a leading scorer, securing the highest individual award and guiding Creamline to another title. The Cool Smashers eventually completed a historic grand slam in the Invitationals.
Pons is expected to deliver another strong performance against Chery Tiggo (5-4) on Feb. 6.
