Baguio: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the Cordillera region has called on government employees to maintain neutrality in the upcoming May 12 polls, warning that failure to do so could result in administrative charges for electioneering.
According to Philippines News Agency, lawyer Julius Torres, the Comelec-Cordillera director, emphasized the importance of neutrality during a program following the Unity Walk organized by Comelec-Baguio for the candidates and various government offices. Torres reminded government workers to focus on their primary duty of serving the public and contributing to a clean, orderly, and honest election.
Torres also addressed political aspirants, urging them to treat each other with respect and avoid derogatory language. He reminded candidates of the importance of adhering to election laws and regulations, noting that voters are discerning and unlikely to support candidates perceived as lawbreakers.
Furthermore, Torres encouraged voters to make informed decisions by scrutinizing candidates’ platforms. Meanwhile, Col. Ruel Tagel, director of the Baguio City Police Office, mentioned that safety and security plans have been developed and will be presented to higher authorities. He noted that while Baguio has historically experienced peaceful elections, logistical challenges remain regarding the movement of resources and personnel.
