Comelec to Share Information on Campaign Donations with ICI

Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is prepared to provide the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) with information regarding contractors who hold government contracts and have contributed campaign funds to various political candidates.

According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia has expressed the commission’s willingness to share these documents if requested by the body investigating corruption in government flood control projects. Garcia emphasized that these records are public documents and can be made available to government agencies conducting their own investigations.

Garcia also mentioned that Comelec has already coordinated with other governmental bodies, including the Office of the Ombudsman and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). He noted that these agencies have requested several documents related to contracts and campaign donations to candidates, political parties, and party-list organizations.

The Office of the Ombudsman is in the process of preparing charges against those implicated in the flood control scandal, while the BIR is undertaking a tax fraud audit targeting contractors, public officials, and private individuals associated with dubious infrastructure projects.

Earlier this week, Comelec disclosed the names of 27 contractors who allegedly contributed to campaigns during the May 2022 elections while holding contracts with the Department of Public Works and Highways. Comelec has also submitted another list of 31 contractors who potentially made campaign contributions during the May 2025 elections.
