Tunis:The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued a warning to the public about a manipulated infographic circulating on social media, falsely claiming that a 'Special Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE)' will occur on November 28.
According to Philippines News Agency, the fake news originated from a Facebook post by 'Rosas Marlon Vlogs,' which falsely asserts that a Special BSKE is scheduled for November 28, 2026. Comelec clarified in a social media statement that the infographic had been altered to mislead people into thinking it was related to the Calendar of Activities for the Special Elections in the Lone Legislative District of the Province of Batanes.
The electoral commission further explained that the special election on November 28 is solely for the lone congressional district of Batanes, to fill the position left vacant by the late Ciriaco Gato Jr., who passed away on September 21 due to a heart attack. He was serving his third and final term.
Comelec emphasized that no Barangay or Youth Council elections will take place in Batanes or anywhere else in the country on November 28, 2026.
Additionally, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. signed Republic Act 12326 into law on September 24, postponing the originally scheduled BSKE from November 2 this year to November 2028. The legislation also establishes a five-year term of office for village and youth officials.
