Sison: The Arenas Christmas Village in Barangay Nancapian has opened its doors to the public, offering not only festive cheer to visitors but also a vital source of income for local vendors.
According to Philippines News Agency, the village is situated on property owned by the family of Pangasinan 2nd District Rep. Rachel Arenas and is accessible for free to both visitors and vendors. Lester Isuan, a “buko” (coconut) juice vendor, shared in an interview that his daily income sees a significant boost during the Christmas season, as he and his wife sell their goods at the town proper in the morning and at the Christmas Village at night.
Toy seller Aljon Ballesteros highlighted the increase in foot traffic, particularly during weekends and the Christmas break, as visitors come to enjoy the festive atmosphere. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to sell products without any fees, noting that the village remains open for over a month.
The Arenas Christmas Village showcases an array of Christmas trees and illuminated displays, including Santa’s sleigh with reindeer, a castle, and Santa’s workstation. The venue features a spacious lawn, offering a relaxing space for parents while children play.
Municipal councilor Vincent Arenas stated that the village operates daily from 6 p.m. to around 10 p.m., inviting everyone to partake in the festivities and sample the offerings from 38 vendors selling food and drinks. The village will remain open from November 16 to January 3, with a special fireworks display scheduled for New Year’s Eve.
