Cebu Families Affected by Typhoon Tino Seek Refuge in Bayanihan Village

Manila: Over a hundred families impacted by Typhoon Tino have temporarily relocated to Bayanihan Village in San Remigio, Cebu, seeking shelter in modular housing units (MHUs) provided by the government.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling stated that these MHUs, located in Barangay Poblacion, were utilized for preemptive evacuation following the local government’s orders. Secretary Aliling emphasized the importance of the MHUs in providing essential refuge during natural disasters, having been previously used during an earthquake and now during the typhoon.

He further explained that the continued operation of Bayanihan Villages aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure safe and dignified temporary housing for families affected by disasters. Last month, President Marcos initiated the establishment of Bayanihan Villages in Cebu and Davao as part of a long-term disaster response initiative.

During a recent visit to San Remigio, President Marcos reviewed the MHUs constructed for those displaced by a 7.4-magnitude earthquake, highlighting their role in offering a secure and comfortable environment. The DHSUD reported that some families who evacuated to these MHUs during Typhoon Tino had previously been residing in tent cities designed for earthquake victims.
