Capas: Ateneo de Manila University exhibited outstanding performance at the UAAP Season 87 swimming tournament, securing a ninth consecutive title in the men’s division and reclaiming the women’s championship after five years at the New Clark City Aquatics Center.

According to Philippines News Agency, Ateneo’s men’s division triumphed with 493 points, earning 19 gold, six silver, and five bronze medals. De La Salle University followed in second place with 321 points, obtaining one gold, 13 silvers, and four bronzes. The University of the Philippines ranked third with 226 points, while the University of Santo Tomas scored 170 points.

On the final day of competition, Ateneo’s men’s team achieved five gold medals. Key performances included Rookie of the Year and MVP Miguel Barreto in the 1500-meter freestyle, Ivo Enot in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle, Juan Marco Daos in the 200m butterfly, and the 4x100m medley relay team comprising Enot, Charles Ticbaen, Rafael Barreto, and Rian Marco Tirol.

men’s division, Ateneo accumulated 349 points with seven golds, eight silvers, and six bronzes. The University of the Philippines, last season’s champion, placed second with 337 points, followed by La Salle and UST.

Mishka Sy was awarded MVP for her achievements, securing two golds, four silvers, and a bronze. La Salle’s Mikaela Talosig earned Rookie of the Year honors by capturing three gold and two bronze medals.

Archie Lim, the swimming program director, attributed the Blue Eagles’ success to perseverance and a tradition of excellence. Lim emphasized the importance of motivation and the honor that comes with breaking records and winning golds for the school and team.

Overall, Ateneo has achieved a total of 10 men’s titles and seven women’s titles in UAAP swimming history.
