Manila: Combined agriculture and infrastructure damage from recent tropical cyclones and the southwest monsoon (habagat) has reached nearly PHP11.7 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, in its latest situational report, the disaster response agency said estimated damage for agriculture so far totaled PHP3.74 billion, recorded in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Cordillera, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas. Affected farmers and fisherfolk reached 89,770, while devastated crop area reached an estimated 79,152 hectares. Of the affected farms, 21,998.02 hectares have no chance of recovery while 57,152.96 have a chance of recovery, the NDRRMC report showed.

Meanwhile, infrastructure damage now cost around PHP7.95 billion in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Cordillera, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas. Reported fatalities are placed at 43, with 11 of which are confirmed to have been caused by bad weather, while 18 are injured and five are missing.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) also reported that 10.2 million residents in nine regions are affected, equivalent to some 2.9 million families in 6,900 villages. About 16,900 families or 58,400 persons are staying in 753 evacuation centers. Assistance provided to affected communities have totaled PHP2.29 billion, the OCD said.
