9 Transmission Lines Restored, Nearly 50 Still Down in Luzon

Manila: Nine transmission lines in Luzon have been restored as of 9 a.m. on Monday, but almost 50 others are still out due to the impact of Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong). The restoration efforts come as the typhoon weakened over the West Philippine Sea, reducing its threat to the region.

According to Philippines News Agency, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has reported successful restoration of several power lines, including the Batangas-Bauan 69kV Line servicing First Bay Power Corp. (FBPC) and MERALCO, and the Batangas-Taysan 69kV Line, which assists BATELEC II and MERALCO. Other restored lines include the Bantay-Vigan 69kV Line co-maintained with ISECO, the Batangas-Mabini-Cuenca 69kV Line, and the Hermosa-Floridablanca 69kV Line, among others.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that Typhoon Uwan was moving with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 160 km/h. Restoration of these transmission lines was prioritized as the typhoon’s intensity decreased.

Despite these efforts, several transmission lines remain down. Key lines still out of service include the Gumaca-Lopez-Tagkawayan 69kV line, Pitogo-Mulanay 69kV Line, and multiple lines in the Naga region, such as the Naga-Lagonoy, Naga-Libmanan, and Naga-Tinambac lines. In total, nearly 50 lines remain unavailable, affecting power distribution across the region.

In the Visayas region, the Paranas-Quinapondan 69kV Line and Palanas Cara-Catarman-Allen-Lao-ang 69kV Line are also affected, with partial energization efforts underway.

The NGCP has mobilized its line crews and is actively conducting patrols and simultaneous restoration activities in accessible areas. Additionally, the NGCP noted that two 138kV, eight 230kV, two 350kV, and one 500kV lines are also unavailable, though details on these lines were not specified.
