Manila: A total of 31 national road sections in eight regions have been rendered impassable due to the effects of Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong), as reported by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). In a recent statement, Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized the mobilization of all available resources to expedite the clearing of these roads. This action aims to facilitate rescue, relief, and transportation efforts as directed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DPWH has deployed its Disaster and Incident Management Teams (DIMT) to address the situation. As of 6 a.m. on Monday, several roads across different regions have been affected. In the Cordillera Administrative Region, roads like the Apayao (Calanasan) – Ilocos Norte Road and the Kalinga-Abra Boundary Road have been closed due to high water elevation and soil collapse. The National Capital Region faces flooding issues on C-4 Road and M. Naval Street, among others.
In the Ilocos Region, the Pangasinan – Nueva Vizcaya Road has been closed as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, the Cagayan Valley region has seen closures like the Cabagan – Sta. Maria Overflow Bridge due to high water levels. Central Luzon is grappling with road closures such as the Baler-Casiguran Road due to storm surge and debris.
The Calabarzon region faces challenges on roads like the Jct. MSR Old Zigzag Road due to fallen trees. In the Bicol region, numerous roads including the Maharlika Highway and Daet Airport Road are closed due to uprooted trees and flooding. The Soccsksargen region is dealing with landslides and mudflows affecting the SNA-Lebak-Kalamansig Road.
Additionally, the DPWH has reported limited access to various roads. Roads in Quirino, Laguna, and Camarines Sur, among others, are only passable to heavy vehicles due to flooding. In Southern Leyte and Northern Samar, certain roads are restricted to light vehicles due to scouring on bridges and fallen utility posts.
