64 PDLs in Palawan Town Undergo First Aid Training

Manila: A total of 64 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) – Brooke’s Point District Jail on Thursday underwent basic first aid training under the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) as part of its initiative to enhance public safety.

According to Philippines News Agency, regional information officer Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo emphasized the importance of preparedness for disasters, whether natural or man-made, to mitigate their impact. Anglo noted that if PDLs are trained in first aid, they can assist fellow inmates during emergencies, highlighting the significance of equipping them with life-saving skills.

The training included instruction on identifying critical actions during life-threatening situations, proper bandaging techniques, making splints, and correctly carrying patients. One of the participants, 32-year-old Michael, a former private healthcare worker, expressed his eagerness to share his expertise with other inmates. He mentioned learning secure knot-tying methods useful during emergencies like earthquakes or fires.

BJMP-BPDJ community relations service officer Jail Officer 1 Ni±o Marco Dadores reported that the PDL trainees received commendations from the BFP. He added that the BJMP-Brooke’s Point District Jail actively collaborates with local government units and other agencies to enhance the capabilities of their personnel and clientele.
