Pasay city: The Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) unveiled the clam-shaped gold, silver, and bronze medals for the winners of the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships, scheduled from November 20 to 24 at the Manila Marriott Hotel in Pasay City.
According to Philippines News Agency, GAP President Cynthia Carrion emphasized the significance of the medals, recognizing the dedication of young athletes aspiring for international recognition. “We recognize the hard work and effort of our young athletes in striving to gain glory for flag and country. So we created these attractive medals in tribute to their achievements at the world juniors,” Carrion stated.
The medals, reflecting the tournament’s logo, feature the FIG emblem as the centerpiece “pearl” with the “3rd” insignia around its edges. Silhouettes of a male gymnast on the rings and a female gymnast on the balance beam are also incorporated. Additionally, the location, Pasay City, and the event dates are engraved on the medals. The competition is supported by the Office of the President, Philippine Sports Commission, and the Department of Tourism.
In addition to medals, podium finishers will receive plushies of the official mascots-Bughaw for the boys and Lila for the girls. Carrion noted these mascots are part of recognizing the achievements of these young athletes, who are expected to become future stars in world gymnastics.
Representing the Philippines in the event is Karl Eldrew, brother of Paris Olympics gold medalist Carlos Edriel Yulo. Currently training in Tokyo, Japan under coach Munehiro Kugimiya, Karl Eldrew is following in the footsteps of his brother, who is a world and Olympic champion.
