Visayas Grid Under Yellow Alert Following Cebu Earthquake Impact
Cebu: A yellow alert status has been issued for the Visayas grid from 1 p.m. until midnight on Wednesday after 27 power plants were rendered unavailable due to a magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu on Tuesday night. This alert indicates a limited margin between available power supply and demand. According to Philippines News Agency, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported that approximately 1,444.1 megawatts (MW) were lost following the tripping of power plants caused by the tremor. The available capacity in the Visayas region is around 1,888 MW, while the peak demand is approximately 1,839 MW.
