MAINS Collects RM67 Mln in Zakat For First Half Of 2024

The Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council (MAINS) has collected zakat (tithe) totalling RM67 million from January to June this year. Bursa Malaysia Recovers At Opening With KLCI Returning To 1,600-level

Bursa Malaysia recovered on Friday morning with the key index returning to the 1,600 level, taking a cue from Wall Street’s upbeat performance overnight due to lower-than-expected weekly jobless claims data in the United States, a dealer said. The dealer said the jobless claims data totalled a seasonally adjusted 233,000 for the week ended on Aug 3, a decline of 17,000 and lower than the Dow Jones estimate of 240,000, allaying fears of the creeping US unemployment rate and recessionary concerns. At 9.08 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) recouped 9.84 points or 0.61 per cent to 1,600.22

FBM KLCI Futures Open Stronger

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) futures contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives traded stronger this morning, tracking the underlying cash market. At 9.19 am, the August 2024 spot month contract rose 9.0 points to 1,591.5, September 2024 and March 2025 contracts gained 8.5 points to 1,574.0 and 1,567.5, respectively, the December 2024 contract increased 15.5 points to 1,586.0. Turnover amounted to 2,318 lots, while open interest stood at 42,730 contracts. Ringgit Opens Firmer Against US Dollar

The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar this morning, although the greenback had strengthened following lower-than-expected jobless claims in the United States (US), said an analyst. At 8 am, the ringgit appreciated to 4.4695/4800 versus the greenback from yesterday’s close of 4.4710/4750. The initial jobless claims dropped to 233,000, lower than consensus estimates of 241,000 and last week’s level of 250,000. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid told Bernama that the solid data relieved fears of a US recession, leading to higher equity prices while bond yields rose.
