‘Unang Biyahe’ showcases works of Davao artists

Davao Oriental homegrown artists are holding their first major art show, “Unang Biyahe” (First Trip), at the La Herencia Davao Art and Events Pavilion along Torres Street here.

The exhibit features 90 works of Prisma de Oriente, a mix of 14 seasoned and upcoming artists from Mati City, Davao Oriental.

It will run until Nov. 21 and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Admission is free.

Prisma de Oriente is composed of Ega Carreon, Jing Cayacay Rabat, Gilbert Miraflor, Gorjel Llanita, Marilyn Silveron, Tommy Rodriguez, Leonardo Comargo Jr., Nico Valdueza, Arrah Marundan, Marvin Tiberio, Jesus Mejia, Mat Dedal, Christian Alfuerto, and Pit Ybañez.

The artists first gathered for “12 Strokes” at Subangan Museum in Mati City last year.

They later conceived Prisma de Oriente to symbolize the diverse colors under the white light and art of Davao Oriental’s native sons and daughters.

“The role of an artist or poet in a society is to try and express what we all feel, not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all, ” curator Carreon said in a news release on Sunday.

The exhibition also features the works of guest artists Ericka Bandigan, Heart Paglinawan, Anja Paglinawan, Jaeger Delima Nombrado, Jaeira Delima Nombrado, Lili Jane Bernal, Alek Zander Dosdos, Carla Mae Enanoria, Shine Nodura, and Hannah Nicole Almirol.
