TESDA to assist Antique town in running training center

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Antique provincial office on Wednesday assured assistance to the local government unit (LGU) of Belison in the operation of its skills training center.

TESDA Antique provincial director Glenn Murphy said in an interview Wednesday that the provincial board, on its regular session last July 1, 2021, gave Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao the authority to enter into a tripartite agreement with their office and Belison town.

Murphy said that once the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) is signed, the center could already be used in training residents.

“TESDA will provide the capability training for the personnel to be assigned by the Belison LGU and the scholarships for the trainees,” he said.

Under the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), the municipality of Belison will provide the maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE) of the center while the provincial government will conduct trade fairs and extend other forms of assistance to the trainees.

The construction of the training center was funded with a PHP3-million allocation from the TESDA as mandated under Republic Act 9509 or the Barangay Kabuhayan Act.

“Antique province is fortunate that Congresswoman Loren Legarda had worked out for all the 18 municipalities to have centers established, however,” he said.

Murphy said the municipal training center in Belison that was completed in October 2020 is one of the centers that will be built in each of the province’s 18 municipalities.

The center in Sebaste town was completed in December 2020 while he has yet to check on the project in the municipality of Caluya.
