ITCZ to bring rains over parts of Luzon, Visayas

A weather forecaster on Thursday cautioned residents of some areas in Luzon and the Visayas against possible flooding and landslides, as rains caused by the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) would continue.

Occidental Mindoro and Palawan will have light to moderate, to at times heavy rains. Flooding is possible, said Benison Estareja of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The rest of Luzon will have warm and humid weather in the afternoon. Tuguegarao City will also have a temperature of 34 degrees Celsius.

“There’s a high chance of rains in the afternoon or evening,” Estareja added.

Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi and Sulu will also experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ. “Take precaution against landslides,” he warned.

Rains are also likely over the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao, but these are caused by thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, no gale warning is currently in effect. Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will continue to prevail over the entire archipelago.

Likewise, Estareja said no weather disturbance is currently being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
