Calamba health exec clarifies city’s 2 Delta variant cases

Calamba City health officer Adelino Labro on Thursday confirmed that the two patients from Calabarzon who were found to have contracted the Covid-19 Delta variant are residents of the city.

Labro, however, clarified that the two have long been cleared of Covid-19.

“Nagkaroon tayo ng Delta variant dito sa Calamba, pero ito ay na-tag na as (We had the Delta variant here in Calamba, but they are now both tagged) as recovered,” Labro said.

He said the city’s two Delta variant cases underwent swab test on June 27 and recovered from the virus on July 12.

“Lumabas ang resulta ng tinatawag na genome sequencing ng Philippine Genome Center kahapon lamang, kaya pinalabas nito na may kaso ng Delta variant dito sa Calamba. Pero kung tutuusin natin, hindi po ito (The result of the so-called genome sequencing of the Philippine Genome Center only came out yesterday, so it was reported that there is a Delta variant case here in Calamba. But if you think about it, they are not) active cases,” Labro said.

Labro told the Calambeños that there is no reason to worry about the Delta variant for now.

“Hindi tayo dapat mag-panic dahil ito ay recovered cases na, at doon naman sa area na kung saan nagkaroon ng positibong kaso ay wala tayong nakitang pagtaas or pagdami ng kaso ng Covid-19 dahil ito ay naagapan natin. Na-quarantine nang maayos ang mga positibo na kaso, at ito ay nabantayan nang maayos (We should not panic because these are recovered cases already, and there was no spike of Covid-19 cases in the area where the Delta variant cases were traced because we were able to mitigate it. The positive cases had been quarantined properly, and they were properly monitored),” he said.

Labro, who was overseeing the ongoing vaccination drive at SM City Calamba, also called on the Calambeños to get vaccinated for Covid-19 especially that the said city, Calabarzon’s regional center, has received a lot of vaccines from the Department of Health.

“Samantalahin po natin na marami tayong bakunang available sa ngayon (We should take advantage of the opportunity of the fact that we have many vaccines available right now),” he said.
