Uwan Finally Dissipates, ITCZ Brings Rain Over Visayas, Mindanao

Manila: The low pressure area formerly known as Uwan has dissipated outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the weather bureau said Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that there are no longer any weather disturbances within the PAR. However, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is causing rain over large parts of Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, and Central Visayas. PAGASA weather specialist Leanne Loreto explained during a press briefing that the ITCZ, which involves the meeting of winds from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, is responsible for the ongoing rains in these regions.

Despite the dissipation of Uwan, PAGASA has issued warnings about potential flash floods and landslides in the eastern parts of Visayas and Mindanao. Meanwhile, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, the Ilocos Region, and the Cordilleras are expected to experience light rains due to the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan.

In contrast, Metro Manila, a large portion of Luzon, and Palawan are forecasted to remain dry with no rain. Additionally, a gale warning has been issued for the seaboard of Batanes due to rough to very rough sea conditions.
