Bicol: Six persons were reported dead from Super Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong) in the Bicol Region.
According to Philippines News Agency, OCD-Bicol spokesperson Gremil Alexis Naz confirmed that besides the previously reported fatality from Catanduanes, additional fatalities were reported from Albay and Camarines Sur provinces. The deaths are subject to validation by the management of the dead and missing persons cluster.
The fatality from Albay was identified as a 74-year-old woman from Barangay Talin-Talin, Libon, whose body was discovered in the same area. In Garchitorena, two additional victims, a 43-year-old male and a 63-year-old female from Binagasbasan, died from drowning due to a storm surge. They had ventured out to check their motor banca. Another victim, an 81-year-old male from Sitio Bayog, bedridden and dependent on his elderly wife, succumbed to prolonged exposure to cold and damp conditions on November 9.
In Tinambac, a 66-year-old male from Sogod died after falling while attempting to fix a roof. The OCD reported 3,969 families, equivalent to 15,203 persons, are currently housed in 194 evacuation centers, with an additional 7,780 families or 28,308 individuals staying with their relatives.
The typhoon caused significant structural damage, with 16,318 homes destroyed and 149,948 partially damaged. Several areas have been experiencing power outages, communication disruptions, and water supply interruptions. Overall, Uwan impacted 673,889 families across 3,228 barangays in the Bicol Region, Naz stated.
