Western visayas: Tropical Cyclone Uwan has impacted 12,545 families or 38,380 individuals across 284 barangays in 35 local government units in Western Visayas. According to data released by the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 6 (DSWD FO6), these figures were confirmed on Monday.
According to Philippines News Agency, 6,714 families, comprising 20,028 individuals, are currently accommodated in 392 open evacuation centers. An additional 2,750 families, or 8,765 persons, have found temporary refuge with relatives or friends, as reported at 4 a.m.
Capiz and Aklan reported the highest numbers of affected families, with 7,833 families or 23,985 individuals in Capiz and 1,955 families or 5,851 persons in Aklan. Meanwhile, Antique has evacuated 1,133 families or 3,202 individuals, Iloilo has 1,068 families or 3,712 individuals, and Guimaras has 551 families or 1,639 persons displaced.
The DSWD has provided PHP256,365 worth of assistance to affected families through collaboration with local government units and nongovernment organizations. The department also reported having PHP51.99 million in available relief resources, including PHP2.79 million in standby funds and over PHP49.2 million in food and non-food items.
While Western Visayas was under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, Super Typhoon Uwan did not strike the region directly. However, heavy rains and strong winds necessitated precautionary evacuations based on advisories from government authorities.
