LANAO DEL SUR: The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), in collaboration with the Department of Energy (DOE), has announced plans to upgrade medical facilities in Lanao del Sur province as part of an ongoing initiative to support local communities through renewable energy solutions.

According to Philippines News Agency, the construction of the medical facilities is set to commence in the first quarter of 2025. This effort is a continuation of the Development for Renewable Energy Applications Mainstreaming and Market Sustainability (Dreams) Project, a key initiative aimed at integrating renewable energy technologies into local infrastructure and services.

The provincial government of Lanao del Sur emphasized the commitment of Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. to working with UNDP Philippines on various development projects. These projects focus on areas such as women, peace and security, and renewable energy, which are critical to the region’s sustainable development. Adiong has also been actively involved in efforts related to the rehabilitation of Marawi City, economic recovery, and institutional development.

A recent statement from the provincial government revealed that the Dreams Core Group of Lanao del Sur convened a meeting on Thursday at the Provincial Engineer’s Office conference room to discuss the project’s progress and strategies.

The DOE is spearheading this five-year project through its Renewable Energy Management Bureau, in partnership with the Global Environment Facility and UNDP. The initiative aims to assist local government units and other stakeholders in promoting and increasing renewable energy investments at the local level, thereby contributing to more sustainable and resilient community infrastructures.
