Typhoon Tino Claims 204 Lives Across the Philippines

Manila: The reported fatalities due to Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi) have reached 204, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Saturday.

According to Philippines News Agency, of the number, 141 were recorded in Cebu; one each in Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, Bohol, and Leyte; two in Southern Leyte; three in Capiz; six in Agusan del Sur; 27 in Negros Occidental; and 20 in Negros Oriental.

In its 6 a.m. situation report, the NDRRMC stated that the storm also left 156 people injured in Cebu, Leyte, Negros Occidental, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur, with 109 people still missing.

Tino made landfall on Tuesday, affecting several parts of the Visayas and Mindanao. Cebu and Negros Occidental, among the worst-hit areas, experienced flooding due to intense rains.

A total of 823,977 families, comprising 2.9 million individuals, were affected by the typhoon, with 73,214 families, or 282,490 persons, seeking refuge in evacuation centers.
