Tulfo Supports Month-Long Information Campaign for E-Bike and E-Trike Riders

Manila: Senator Raffy Tulfo on Tuesday expressed his support for the Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) decision to implement its e-bike and e-trike regulations starting January 2026, asserting that a one-month information campaign is adequate to guide riders. Tulfo emphasized that this transition period is essential to prevent confusion among users of light electric vehicles when strict enforcement takes effect on January 2.

According to Philippines News Agency, Tulfo commented that the one-month duration of the information drive is sufficient. He stated, “Kung gaano kahaba [information drive], I think one month is enough (A one-month information drive is enough).” He also highlighted that proper enforcement would necessitate riders to possess driver’s licenses, registrations, and plates, noting that violators cannot be held accountable if their vehicles lack necessary documentation.

Recently, the LTO decided to delay its original plan to impound e-bikes and e-trikes using national highways starting December 1. This decision came after receiving numerous public complaints that led the agency to reconsider its timeline. LTO chief Markus Lacanilao announced on Sunday that the enforcement date had been postponed to provide a one-month grace period, granting the agency additional time to clarify the regulations.
