MANILA: Tropical Storm Marce, internationally known as Yinxing, has intensified, with maximum sustained winds reaching 85 kilometers per hour near its center and gustiness of up to 105 kilometers per hour, as reported in the 5 p.m. bulletin on Monday by the weather bureau.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is likely to hoist Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over parts of Cagayan later tonight or by Tuesday. PAGASA forecaster Veronica Torres stated during a briefing that while Marce currently has no direct effects on any part of the country, its trough is expected to result in cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms across mainland Cagayan, Isabela, and the Bicol Region. These areas could potentially face floods and landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.

Metro Manila and other regions across the country are expected to experience better weather, although localized thunderstorms may cause isolated rain
showers. As of 4 p.m., Marce was located 740 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes. It is projected to make landfall over the Babuyan Islands or mainland northern Cagayan by Thursday evening or Friday.

The cyclone is anticipated to enhance the northeasterly wind flow throughout the week. Starting Tuesday, Marce’s trough will bring rains to extreme Northern Luzon and the eastern section of Luzon. Additionally, PAGASA has indicated that the northeasterly wind flow will produce strong to gale-force gusts over Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Aurora, and northern Quezon on Monday.

Rough seas are expected over the seaboards of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Isabela, northern Aurora, and the eastern seaboard on mainland Cagayan. PAGASA has advised small motorbanca operators to refrain from venturing out to sea due to the hazardous conditions.
