Manila: Over 295,000 families have been affected by three successive tropical cyclones that recently struck the Philippines, as reported by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). The cyclones, named Nika (Toraji), Ofel (Usagi), and Pepito (Man-yi), displaced residents across 3,358 barangays in six regions.
According to Philippines News Agency, the affected families account for approximately 1,145,942 individuals residing in Regions 1, 2, 3, Mimaropa, Region 5, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). While thousands have been displaced, there have been no reported fatalities at this time.
Currently, 104,830 families, or 446,177 individuals, are being sheltered in 2,717 evacuation centers. Additionally, 66,681 families, equivalent to 238,894 people, are receiving assistance outside these centers. The severe weather has also damaged 7,838 houses across Regions 1, 2, 3, and the CAR, with 7,401 partially damaged and 437 completely destroyed.
The cyclones have also inflicte
d considerable damage on agriculture and infrastructure. Agricultural losses are estimated at PHP8,640,199.46, primarily affecting Regions 1 and 3. Infrastructure damage, reported in Regions 2, 3, and the CAR, amounts to PHP469,847,274.36.
