Three Pangasinan Rivers Surpass Critical Levels Amid Ongoing Monsoon Rains

Pangasinan: Three river systems in Pangasinan have exceeded their critical levels as of 11:30 a.m. on Monday, according to monitoring by the Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO). The persistent monsoon rains continue to raise water levels, causing concern among local authorities and residents.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Sinocalan River in Sta. Barbara town measured at 7.2 meters, surpassing its critical level of 7.0 meters. Similarly, the Marusay River in Calasiao town reached 9.0 feet, significantly above its 7.0-foot critical level. The Balincaguing River in Mabini town also exceeded its critical level, recording 7.6 meters against its 7.0-meter threshold. Additionally, the Pantal River in Dagupan City, the Agno (Ba±aga) River in Bugallon town, and the Bued (Cayanga) River in San Fabian town are currently above normal levels.

The PDRRMO reported that the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in Dagupan City recorded 131.4 millimeters of rainfall from the southwest monsoon within a 24-hour period from 8 a.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday. PAGASA has issued a heavy rainfall outlook in its weather advisory No. 63, forecasting an accumulation of 100 to 200 mm of rainfall in Pangasinan from Monday to Tuesday noon.

As a precautionary measure, 44 out of 48 local government units have suspended classes on Monday. The provincial government has extended the suspension of classes to Tuesday due to the ongoing inclement weather. Executive Order No. 66, s. 2012, authorizes local government units to declare localized suspension of classes and work in government institutions based on actual weather and safety conditions.

Rescue, preemptive, and forced evacuation operations are currently underway in some parts of the province to address the flooding situation.
