Manila: Enterprise-based training will be among the Technical Education and Skill Development Authority’s (TESDA) key programs this year, an official said Monday. In a Bagong Pilipinas episode, TESDA Deputy Director General Nelly Nita Dillera emphasized the importance of training leading to employment, expressing hope that more enterprises would register in their program.

According to Philippines News Agency, enterprises could also take advantage of opportunities for upskilling their staff. Dillera noted that if companies aim for career progression among their employees and find alignment with TESDA’s training program, they could register and receive funding for the training. Registered companies are also eligible for incentives, such as having 50 percent of their training expenses deducted from taxable income. Additionally, they are exempt from tax duties when using financial aid or donated tools and materials for training.

TESDA has identified industries such as construction, manufacturing, and electronics as priorities due to their significant contributions to export. Dillera highlighted the demand in manufacturing and electronics, noting the Philippines’ role as a major producer of chips, especially those used in mobile phones. Tourism, health, transportation, and logistics are also priority sectors identified by TESDA.

Dillera encouraged enterprises to register their existing programs so they could be included among the skills training programs offered to the public. Communities, through local government units, are also invited to collaborate with TESDA. She stressed the importance of identifying labor market and skills requirements in various areas to provide appropriate training solutions.
