Survey Reveals Only 1 in 5 Filipinos Fully Achieve New Year’s Resolutions

Manila: One in five Filipinos was able to fully achieve their New Year's resolutions, according to a church-based survey released Monday. The Veritas Truth Survey (VTS) conducted by Radio Veritas from Dec. 1 to 25 found that 23.4 percent of respondents said they completed 100 percent of their resolutions.

According to Philippines News Agency, the survey highlighted a significant gap between aspiration and action as only 23.4 percent of respondents met all their goals. The majority of participants reported partial success, with 38.3 percent achieving about 75 percent of their objectives and 34 percent accomplishing half of their intended resolutions. Meanwhile, 4.3 percent of respondents indicated meeting only 25 percent of their goals.

The survey also revealed age-related patterns in goal fulfillment. Older adults exhibited higher success rates, with a majority of respondents aged 60 and above, as well as those aged 31 to 59 (38.4 percent), achieving 75 percent of their resolutions. Conversely, 46.7 percent of young adults aged 21 to 30 reported reaching only half of their goals.

"The data points to critical patterns in how people approach goal-setting across their lifespan," the survey noted. Older adults' higher fulfillment rates likely result from greater life experience in setting realistic goals, stronger routine-building habits, and less exposure to pressures like work and finance that often hinder younger adults.

Gender comparisons in the survey showed similar levels of achievement, with approximately 38 percent of both men and women meeting 75 percent of their resolutions. However, women slightly surpassed men in fully achieving their goals, with 26.5 percent compared to 23.4 percent of men.

The nationwide survey included 1,200 respondents and had a margin of error of ±3 percent.
