Speaker Rallies House to Stand United with Calamity-Affected Filipinos

Manila: Members of the House of Representatives will stand united with Filipinos affected by recent calamities, with Speaker Faustino Dy III emphasizing that true leadership is measured by dedication, compassion, and action in times of crisis.

According to Philippines News Agency, Speaker Dy highlighted the importance of public service during the resumption of the House session on Tuesday, stating, “Sa gitna ng bawat unos, pinapaalala sa atin na ang paglilingkod ay hindi lamang tungkol sa paggawa ng batas, kundi sa pagpapakita ng malasakit, sa pagkilos at sa pagbibigay ng pag-asa (Amid every calamity, we are reminded that public service is not only about crafting laws, but also in showing compassion, taking action, and offering hope).”

Dy noted that the House leadership understands and fully supports lawmakers who remain in their districts to lead relief and recovery operations after tropical cyclones Uwan and Tino battered the country in succession. He emphasized the importance of showing dedication in service during these challenging times.

The Isabela Sixth District lawmaker assured families and communities devastated by the typhoons that Congress will collaborate with their representatives to deliver immediate aid and long-term rehabilitation. He added that the House continues to coordinate with national agencies and local officials to ensure that relief, rehabilitation, and preparedness efforts are implemented efficiently and equitably.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that tropical cyclones Uwan and Tino affected more than two million people, with the death toll at 232 and six, respectively, as of Tuesday morning.
