Singapore Opens Scholarship Opportunities for Filipino Students

Manila: The Singaporean government has announced that it is now accepting applications for its ASEAN scholarship, targeting Filipino students who are currently in Grade 9 or above. This initiative is aimed at providing educational opportunities for students to study in Singapore.

According to Philippines News Agency, the scholarship offered by the Singapore Ministry of Education is valid for four years, covering Singapore’s ‘Secondary 3 to Pre-University 2’. This scholarship leads to the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A-Level) certificate or an equivalent qualification. It will be renewed annually based on the scholar’s academic performance in school.

Singaporean Ambassador to the Philippines, Constance See, stated that the ministry would determine the starting grade level for accepted applicants. The scholarship is open to Filipinos born between January 2, 2009, and January 1, 2012. Ambassador See mentioned that there is no set maximum number of scholarships to be awarded, as it depends on the number of applicants who meet the criteria.

In the previous year, 2023, the Ministry of Education awarded 15 scholarships, with at least 22 projected for 2024. These scholars hailed from different parts of the Philippines, including Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The ambassador expressed hope that the program will attract applications from bright and deserving Filipino students.

Eligibility criteria for the scholarship include being born within the specified dates, being in Grade 9 or above, proficiency in English, consistent academic excellence, and a solid record of participation in co-curricular activities.

The scholarship package includes an annual allowance with hostel accommodation, a settling-in allowance, return economy airfare, coverage of school and examination fees for GCE O-Level and A-Level (once only, as applicable), and subsidized medical benefits and accident insurance.

The deadline for application submission is set for February 21, 2025. Interested applicants can find more information and apply through the Ministry of Education’s website under ASEAN Scholarships for The Philippines-MOE.
