Manila: The Senate on Thursday assured the public that no confidential or sensitive information appears to have been compromised after its official website was subjected to a cyberattack that altered its contents.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Senate's Electronic Data Processing and Management Information System (EDP-MIS) stated that the incident involved an unauthorized modification of the Senate website, commonly known as a website defacement. The technical team quickly activated security protocols, contained the issue, and launched a comprehensive investigation into the breach.
The Senate mentioned that initial findings showed no indication that sensitive information had been accessed, noting that the website primarily hosts publicly available documents and informational materials intended for public access. "Upon detection of the incident, our technical team immediately initiated security protocols, contained the issue, and commenced a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause and extent of the unauthorized activity," the EDP-MIS detailed.
The office further added that additional security measures are being implemented to prevent similar incidents and that authorities continue to closely monitor the situation. "We assure the public that protecting the integrity and availability of our systems remains a top priority. We continue to closely monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary," it stated.
The Senate expressed gratitude to the public for its patience and understanding as efforts continue to safeguard the security and reliability of its online platforms.
