PSEi and Peso Show Gains in Tuesday’s Trading

Manila: Both local shares and the peso closed Tuesday’s trading stronger. The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) ended the day with a gain of 0.45 percent, reaching 6,064.11, while All Shares increased by 0.24 percent to 3,628.96 points.

According to Philippines News Agency, the local bourse continued its upward trend as investors engaged in bargain-hunting ahead of the consumer price index release. Luis Limlingan, head of sales at Regina Capital Development Corp., noted that the market’s gains were led by Mining and Oil, which saw an increase of 3.27 percent to 8,129.20 points.

Financials also experienced an improvement, rising by 1.27 percent to 2,310.48 points, while Services went up by 0.73 percent to 1,942.52. The Industrial sector saw a rise of 0.49 percent to 8,631.33. However, not all sectors fared well, as Property and Holding Firms ended in negative territory, declining by 0.12 and 0.07 percent, respectively. The market recorded 107 advancers against 84 losers, with 49 issues remaining unchanged.

In the currency market, the Philippine peso gained strength, closing at 57.75 to the US dollar from the previous day’s 57.90. It marked a gain of 0.15 against the dollar. The peso opened the day at 57.83, stronger than the previous opening of 57.98. The trading range for the day was between a low of 57.75 and a high of 57.84, with an average of 57.81 against the greenback. Trade volume slightly decreased to USD1.04 billion from USD1.06 billion.
