President Marcos Grants Ad Interim Appointments to 10 Cabinet Secretaries

Manila:President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has granted ad interim appointments to 10 Cabinet secretaries, with the officials taking their oaths of office during a ceremony held at Malacañan Palace in Manila.

According to Philippines News Agency, the officials who received these appointments include Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida, Budget Secretary Kim Robert De Leon, Public Works Secretary Giovanni Lopez, Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino, and Health Secretary Edwin Mercado. The list also comprises Environment Secretary Juan Miguel Cuna, Tourism Secretary Maria Bernardita Angara-Mathay, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, and Philippine Space Agency Director General Gay Jane Perez.

On the sidelines of the event, Executive Secretary Recto noted that he and the other nine appointees would need to undergo confirmation by the Commission on Appointments (CA) following their ad interim appointments. Recto emphasized that they have already submitted their appointments to the CA for review and approval.

Most of the reappointed Cabinet members had been serving in an acting capacity before receiving their ad interim appointments. These latest appointments come amidst a series of Cabinet changes under the Marcos administration, as the President aims to recalibrate his administration's priorities and strengthen the implementation of key programs. Among the recent changes is the reassignment of Vince Dizon from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and Giovanni Lopez's transfer to the DPWH.

The ad interim appointments are pending confirmation by the CA, which is a constitutional body responsible for reviewing and approving presidential appointments.
