Power Restoration in Typhoon-Hit Catanduanes by December 22: DOE

Catanduanes: The Department of Energy (DOE) has assured the public that efforts are underway to restore power supply in Catanduanes, one of the provinces heavily affected by Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong).

According to Philippines News Agency, Energy Secretary Sharon Garin, during her visit to the province, stated that power supply is expected to be fully restored by December 22, just in time for Christmas. She emphasized the commitment to work around the clock to achieve this goal, except in areas that are extremely remote and inaccessible.

Garin highlighted that the restoration efforts will allow families to celebrate Christmas with electricity in their homes. She also mentioned plans to enhance the electrical infrastructure to ensure it can withstand future storms, aiming for improved resilience.

In a related report, Jun Surtida, chief of Catanduanes’ Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, indicated progress in the restoration efforts, with some barangays in Bato and Virac already energized. Specifically, 28 out of 63 barangays in Virac and three out of 27 barangays in Bato have regained power. Catanduanes consists of 11 municipalities.
