Pope Leo XIV to Meet with 100 Filipino Priests in Rome

Rome: Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to meet with all priests, including around 100 Filipino clergy, assigned in Rome next week, as reported by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) News.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Diocese of Rome stated that the meeting is set to take place at 10 a.m. on June 12, 2025, at the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall, which can accommodate up to 6,300 people. This event marks Pope Leo XIV’s first official encounter with the priests of his diocese since his election to the papacy in May.

Rev. Gregory Ramon Gaston, rector of the Pontificio Collegio Filippino (PCF), noted that Filipino priests pursuing studies in Rome would be among those attending. He clarified in an interview on Church-run Radio Veritas that the meeting is open to all priests serving in Rome, not just those from the PCF.

Approximately 100 Filipino priests are based in Rome, with about half residing at the PCF where they engage in formation, including advanced studies in theology, philosophy, canon law, and other ecclesiastical fields.
