Manila: Political ambition should not compromise public safety, asserted PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, as the force prepares for any disruptions during the upcoming 90-day campaign period for senators and party-list representatives, commencing on February 11.

According to Philippines News Agency, Marbil emphasized that actions inciting violence, intimidating voters, or undermining the electoral process will be met with the full force of the law. In a statement released on Sunday, he stated, “As we approach the midterm elections, the PNP remains steadfast in its duty to uphold peace and security.”

Marbil stressed that the PNP will remain vigilant to ensure peaceful conduct during the elections, warning that anyone attempting to disrupt the process through violence or intimidation will be held accountable. He reiterated the paramount priority of safeguarding the integrity of the May 12 midterm elections and assured that the PNP will remain impartial. “No political ambition should compromise public safety,” he said.

The PNP’s 100-day security plan, launched on February 5, aims to address potential threats, dismantle private armed groups, and maintain order even after the elections. Key measures include intensified operations against loose firearms and wanted criminals, proactive intelligence monitoring to prevent election-related violence, strategic police deployments in identified election areas of concern, and round-the-clock checkpoints and patrols in high-risk areas.

While election security remains a top priority, Marbil assured that the PNP’s broader mandate to combat crime, illegal drugs, and other threats to public safety will continue. The PNP is responsible for handling Commission on Elections checkpoints to enforce the gun ban until June 11. Local candidates will begin their campaign on March 28, with all campaigns wrapping up by May 10.
