Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) is finalizing its Anti-Illegal Drug Campaign Roadmap 2024-2028, a strategic framework aimed at intensifying efforts against illegal drugs while ensuring a humane and rights-based approach. In a statement Wednesday, PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said the roadmap is based on the “hard-earned lessons from the past,” acknowledging the sacrifices of thousands of police officers who bore the brunt of enforcement efforts.
According to Philippines News Agency, the roadmap is a testament to the PNP’s dedication to protecting lives and upholding human dignity, honoring the heroism of the police force while aiming to foster a safer, drug-free Philippines. The country’s top cop emphasized that the roadmap reflects the administration’s commitment to a bloodless and community-oriented campaign.
The plan outlines a phased approach from laying the foundation with humane and rights-based operations to enhancing enforcement capabilities through specialized training and in
ternational collaboration, and robust community engagement. This is followed by scaling successful programs and a fully integrated law enforcement system designed to streamline national and local cooperation while maintaining public trust.
“This roadmap embodies a clear, strategic direction that aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call for a humane and effective approach to solving the drug problem,” Marbil said. The plan is being developed by the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (DEG) under Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta, under the direction and guidance of the concerned PNP directorates.
The mission is clear: to conduct intensified operations, ensure successful prosecution, and foster public awareness on the harmful effects of drugs in close partnership with communities. Marbil maintained that this campaign goes beyond enforcement as it also covers prevention, partnership, and creating a safer, healthier environment for all Filipinos.
“Together, we will end the scourge of illegal drugs through a united,
compassionate, and rights-based approach,” he said.
