Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) will remain on alert, especially in transport terminals, airports, and piers, as commuters return from the provinces after the extended weekend for the observance of Undas (All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days). PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo stated in a radio interview that approximately 18,000 officers were deployed to secure transportation hubs, thoroughfares, and cemeteries.
According to Philippines News Agency, Fajardo reported that no significant untoward incidents occurred during the observance of Undas, except for a fire inside the Bagbag Cemetery in Novaliches, Quezon City on November 1, which affected around 30 families. She expressed satisfaction with the generally peaceful and orderly nationwide observance of Undas, noting the absence of major incidents that could disrupt the commemoration.
Fajardo also mentioned that the PNP continues to assist in military-led relief operations in areas severely affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine and Sup
er Typhoon Leon, particularly in the Bicol Region. She reported that some 3,200 uniformed officers and nearly 200 non-uniformed employees were impacted by the weather disturbances, primarily in the Bicol provinces. The PNP provided financial assistance to the affected officers and staff.
