Manila: A last-minute entry tackling green energy by Marjorie Joy Olea of the Philippines has won the gold prize of the 2024 China-Philippines Gen Z Vision short video competition co-hosted by China Energy Engineering Group Co. Ltd. (Energy China) and the Association for Philippines-China Understanding (APCU). Olea bested almost 400 entries both from China and the Philippines with her work titled ‘Together for a shared future, together for a green future’ winning a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 camera or PHP30,000 and a certificate.
According to Philippines News Agency, Olea expressed her surprise and joy at the victory, stating, “This is my first time to join under CEEC (Energy China) and APCU. I did not expect to win because I submitted on the last day of the deadline.” She chose the theme of green energy to highlight the existing cooperation between China and the Philippines in the field of renewable energy, a collaboration she believes is not widely known among Filipinos.

at promote China-Philippines relations and cooperation with the silver prize, while three participants, including two from the Philippines, tied for the bronze prize. Special awards such as best story, best filmmaker, best energetic, and best creativity were also distributed by the organizers.
Launched on August 5, the competition received significant support and active participation from universities, media outlets, and various sectors across both China and the Philippines. It focused on three themes: “Green Energy,” “Harmonious Ecology,” and “China-Philippine Exchanges.”
Participants used their lenses to capture the distinctive cultures, traditions, and societal vistas of both nations, showcasing the ingenuity and profound reflections of the younger generation. Submissions included documentaries, street interviews, Vlogs, podcasts, and beyond, fully exhibiting Generation Z’s unique observation and expression concerning contemporary issues.
The organizers expressed hope that the contest will further build
a bridge of understanding between the two countries through the amalgamation of ideas and cultures. They encouraged Generation Z to continue crafting and sharing narratives that strengthen the friendship between China and the Philippines.
