PH’s Tennielle Madis Advances to Doubles 2nd Round in Malaysia Tennis Tournament

Kuala Lumpur: Philippine Tennis Academy player Tennielle Madis faced a challenging match against No. 4 seed Renee Alame of Australia, succumbing 2-6, 5-7, on Wednesday in the second round of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) J200 Kuala Lumpur singles competition at the National Tennis Center in Malaysia. Despite the singles setback, the 17-year-old from M’lang, North Cotabato succeeded in advancing to the next round in the doubles category.

According to Philippines News Agency, Madis partnered with Russian Alexandra Malova to secure a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory over Indian Diya Ramesh and American Priyanka Rana. As the competition progresses, Madis and Malova are set to face the No. 8 Russian pair Anna Pushkareva and Alisa Terentyeva in the subsequent round.

Former Davis Cupper and SEA Games medalist Robert Angelo commented on Madis’s performance, stating, “Tenny fought well, did her best but the Australian played better.” He expressed confidence in Madis’s resilience, saying, “Tenny is a fighter, I’m sure she’ll try to bounce back in Kuching (Malaysia) and Nonthaburi (Thailand), both J300 events.”

The upcoming Kuching event is scheduled from April 22 to 27, while the Nonthaburi Closed Regional Championships will take place from April 28 to May 3. Earlier this year, Madis achieved success by winning two doubles titles in the United Arab Emirates. In the previous year, she secured five doubles titles, four of which were with her PTA teammate Stefi Marithe Aludo in J60 events held across Manila, China, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.
