PH to Promote Regional Stability and Inclusive Development as ASEAN Chair

Kuala lumpur: The Philippines will help further improve regional stability, promote shared growth, and ensure inclusive development among communities during its Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) chairship next year, a trade official said Wednesday. This announcement comes after President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. accepted the country’s chairmanship from Malaysia during the closing ceremony of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Trade and Industry Secretary Cristina Roque stated, “Our thematic priorities will guide ASEAN toward practical cooperation-ensuring peace that enables progress, prosperity that reaches every sector, and empowerment that drives participation from all.” The Philippines aims to leverage its chairship as a platform to demonstrate leadership in trade, investment, digital innovation, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) development, and the creative economy.

The statement further emphasized that the chairship will highlight the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage and creative spirit, showcasing its landscapes, the warmth of its people, and the artistry of local entrepreneurs. During the hand-over ceremony, President Marcos committed to implementing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and supporting Timor-Leste’s participation in the regional bloc.

Guided by the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together,” the Philippines intends to strengthen peace and security anchors, bolster prosperity corridors, and advance people empowerment during its tenure as ASEAN chair.
