Taipei: The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Friday announced that 10 Philippine startups and micro-agripreneurs displayed their innovative products and technologies at Taiwan Smart Agriweek 2026, aiming to capture the attention of international markets.
According to Philippines News Agency, DA Secretary Francisco Tiu highlighted the importance of this initiative in helping Filipino agribusinesses expand beyond domestic boundaries. He stated, "Bringing our agri-startups to Taiwan and other international markets opens doors to investment, technology, exports, and commercial partnerships. These opportunities can help promising Filipino enterprises scale while creating more value and opportunities for our farmers, entrepreneurs, and workers."
Among the participants, four enterprises were recognized as part of the Top 40 finalists of the Global Agrifood Innovation Championship, selected from hundreds of applicants. Notable mentions include PHYTOSPHERE Agro-Biotech Processing Enterprise, known for developing botanical pesticides and agricultural inputs, and WamPLVS+, which innovatively converts watermelon peels and rinds into WamPow, a natural preservative and additive.
Also in the spotlight were Farmyra Technologies Corp., which leverages automation and data analytics for smarter farming, and PETROTECHS, with its MusselFlex device and digital platform designed to minimize manual labor while linking producers with buyers and market information.
The delegation from the Philippines also featured enterprises like Mira's Food and Agriventure Inc., Bluecrust Processed Food Manufacturing, Eco-Pure Cleaning Solutions, Jeepney Republic TW, Ferncrest Dairy Farm, and Kuya Bs Mushroom Products. The event offered these companies an invaluable opportunity to immerse themselves in Taiwan's business and innovation ecosystem, crucial for assessing market interest and exploring potential partnerships.
DA Assistant Secretary Genevieve E. Velicaria-Guevarra expressed optimism about the exposure gained through regional exhibitions, aiming to broaden opportunities and establish commercial pathways for Filipino agricultural innovation in international markets. She remarked, "May this platform serve as another bridge for agricultural cooperation between Manila and Taipei, connecting Filipino agricultural innovation with investment, Philippine products with international markets, and our farmers, entrepreneurs, and workers with greater opportunities across the agricultural value chain."
The initiative was successfully organized through collaboration between the Department of Agriculture-Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service (DA-AMAS), the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC)-Taipei.
